6-Week UCAT Study Plan

A structured, week-by-week preparation plan designed for applicants with 6 weeks before their test date.

Before you start: Take a diagnostic full mock test under timed conditions before week 1. This establishes your baseline and tells you which sections need the most attention. Adjust the weekly emphasis below based on your weaknesses.

Week 1

Foundations & Diagnostic

Take stock of where you are and build a solid foundation in the most time-hungry sections.

Mon

Diagnostic mock test (full, timed). Record scores per section.

Tue

Review diagnostic. Identify 2 priority sections. Read UCAT VR strategy guide.

Wed

60 mins Verbal Reasoning practice. Focus on True/False/Can't Tell technique.

Thu

45 mins Quantitative Reasoning — revise percentages, ratios, data interpretation.

Fri

45 mins Decision Making — syllogisms and probability basics.

Sat

30 mins Abstract Reasoning — identify common pattern types (colour, number, size, rotation).

Sun

Rest or light review of your error log.

Week 2

Section Deep-Dive: VR & QR

Cement technique in Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning — two of the highest-weighting sections.

Mon

30 VR questions timed. Review all answers.

Tue

30 QR questions. Focus on speed — use the calculator efficiently.

Wed

30 VR + 20 QR. Track speed per question.

Thu

Timed VR section (22 min, 44 questions). Simulate real conditions.

Fri

Timed QR section (25 min, 36 questions).

Sat

Review week's error log. Redo 10 most common mistake types.

Sun

Rest.

Week 3

Section Deep-Dive: DM & AR

Decision Making and Abstract Reasoning require different skills — one logical, one visual. Both reward pattern recognition.

Mon

20 DM questions. Focus on logical venn diagrams and interpreting charts.

Tue

55 AR questions (timed, 17 min). Speed is the challenge — don't overthink.

Wed

30 DM. Practice statistical reasoning questions.

Thu

55 AR under time pressure. Aim to reduce time per question below 18 seconds.

Fri

Mixed DM + AR. Full section of each back-to-back.

Sat

Error review. Identify recurring pattern failures in AR.

Sun

Rest.

Week 4

Situational Judgement & Integration

SJT requires understanding GMC values — not guessing. Integrate all sections into mixed practice.

Mon

Read GMC Good Medical Practice. Note key principles.

Tue

40 SJT questions. Compare your reasoning to official explanations carefully.

Wed

40 SJT questions. Focus on importance vs appropriateness distinction.

Thu

Mixed practice: 20 VR + 20 QR + 20 AR (timed per section).

Fri

40 SJT + 20 DM.

Sat

Full timed mock (section by section, not a full sitting).

Sun

Review all errors. Update error log.

Week 5

Full Mock Tests & Refinement

Build stamina and consistency with full timed mocks. Identify any remaining pattern of errors.

Mon

Full timed mock (2 hours straight). No interruptions.

Tue

Full mock review — every question, every section.

Wed

Targeted practice on weakest area from mock.

Thu

Second full timed mock.

Fri

Full mock review.

Sat

Mixed section practice. Refine speed.

Sun

Rest.

Week 6

Final Polish & Test Day Prep

Don't cram new material. Consolidate your existing skills, build confidence, and prepare logistically.

Mon

Final full timed mock. Record scores.

Tue

Review mock. Note any final weak spots.

Wed

Targeted drilling of top 3 question types you still struggle with.

Thu

Light practice — 30 mins mixed questions. Nothing new.

Fri

Read through your error log summary. Confirm test day logistics.

Sat

Complete rest. No UCAT. Get a proper night's sleep.

Sun

Test day. Eat well. Arrive early. Trust your preparation.
